While they are closely related, they are not the same. Speech Therapy focuses on speech issues like articulation, voice, and fluency (e.g., stuttering). Speech-Language Therapy is broader, covering both speech issues and language difficulties, such as understanding and using language, forming sentences, and social communication. So, speech therapy is a part of speech-language therapy, which is more comprehensive and addresses a wider range of communication challenges.

Not necessarily. If your child has had recent testing, we may be able to use those results instead of repeating the evaluation. In that case, your speech-language pathologist will review the existing reports and develop an initial plan of care based on that information. A case history review fee of $50–$90 applies, depending on the level of detail in the previous evaluation.

Sessions are fun, play-based, and tailored to your child’s communication needs. Each 45-minute session includes direct therapy and a brief caregiver review, where your therapist shares strategies and resources to support learning at home. Caregiver involvement—especially for children under 3—helps reinforce skills through daily routines and play.

Speech-language therapy can be a powerful complement to mental health care. While we don’t treat anxiety directly, we support communication-related goals that often intersect with emotional well-being. We collaborate closely with mental health professionals and encourage families to seek specialized care when needed—whether that’s through your own trusted provider or one of our therapists at our Counseling Center.
